To clarify the answer here for anyone who missed it:

The first list is just normal definition style crossword clues. The answers are:

(That last one’s a bit rubbish, but this puzzle turned out to be surprisingly constrained.)

The second list is unordered and unnumbered, but the answers all have HOP in them somewhere.

Hopkins
Chopin
Teashop
Shopper
Bishop
Whoppers
Hoped
Carhop

Each answer pairs with one in the first list: remove the HOP and they differ by just one letter. E.g., WHOPPERS->W?PERS->WIPERS

Reading these missing letters in order of the first list gives ASCLEPIUS
